From October to December 2022, Professor John Klausen from the Department of Law collaborated with CALDISS. Klausen's research project examines different approaches by municipalities to rehabilitation cases and what happens when citizens complain to the National Board of Appeal. John Klausen investigates what is emphasized in complaint cases resolved in 2020 and 2021. The purpose of the collaboration was for CALDISS to assist Klausen with nearly 200 rehabilitation cases.
Efficient and positive collaboration
Klausen stated that he was able to identify some general features with his own legal expertise, but he believed that CALDISS could approach the cases without being influenced by the legal framework. Specifically, he received assistance in grouping the cases and finding more specific patterns in the data through the text mining method. This has allowed him to identify the characteristics of the groups much faster.
CALDISS' potential
In the legal field, new and expanded opportunities have emerged for accessing large volmumes of data, including a database of Danish court judgments. This means there will be an increased need for help for dataanalyzing. Klausen believes that CALDISS can be of great help to the Department of Law in the future.
An open door
John Klausen is now continuing the analysis of the data that CALDISS has helped process. When asked if he will use CALDISS in the future, he replied that it is certainly not a "closed door" since the collaboration with research support, Kristian Gade Kjelmann, was very inspiring and helpful.
