Get into social data science with python! – Drop in and get started!

Time

29.04.2020 kl. 12.30 - 15.30

Description

This workshop has been cancelled as part of the countermeasures against COVID-19

DROP IN TO THIS 3-HOUR INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP AND GET STARTED WITH PYTHON!

WHAT IS PYTHON?

Python is a programming language. It is used within many different fields such as software development, data analytics and engineering.

WHY PYTHON?

While the applications of python are vast, it is also an extremely powerful data analytics and statistics tool and is a popular language when it comes to machine learning. Because python is open source, tools and features are continuously added.

python (like R) allows one to be more creative and experimental with ideas. That is why competencies in software like python is in increasing demand - and it's free!

THIS WORKSHOP WILL COVER:

  • Working with the python language in Jupyter Notebook (an IDE for python)
  • Creating variables and objects
  • Importing and exporting data - also from other software like Excel and STATA
  • Creating simple visualizations

After finising this introduction, you can request additional CALDISS workshops to expand your data science competencies.

INSTALLING PYTHON & JUPYTER NOTEBOOK

In order for you to get the most as possible out of the workshop, please make sure to install python and Jupyter Notebook on your own computer before the workshop.

One of the simplest ways to install python (and the one we will be working with in the workshop) is with the Anaconda Distribution. Anaconda is a data science platform that includes python and its most used packages along with various software to work with python. Anaconda includes the Jupyter Notebook IDE.

The Anaconda Distribution can be downloaded here (make sure to select the correct operating system: Windows, macOS or Linux).

Alternatively, you can use the CALDISS Jupyter Notebook-server. Click here to get access.
